Safety Saturday: Essential Oils & Plastics!

Storage:
Undiluted Essential Oils should NEVER be stored in plastic containers!
Because pure EOs are very potent, they can damage and deteriorate rubber and plastic containers.
Instead, consider using containers made from Glass, Aluminum, or Stainless Steel.
EOs in Drinking Water:
When EOs are added to drinking water it is imperative to use a glass or stainless steel container—NEVER use plastic—since EOs degrade petrochemicals, if you put EOs in plastic containers, you will be drinking small amounts of plastics.
*Exceptions:
For Diluted EO products (lip balms, lotions, salves, etc), there are some types of plastic that can be safe to use.
Typically, HDPE plastic as well as plastics PETE #1 and #2 are safe for use with EOs as they will not be broken down.*
